This workshop is designed to nurture awareness on the most important part of our anatomy: the spine. We will discuss the architecture and function of the spine, how spinal curves have evolved over time, and how our chair culture affects the health of our spine today. Luckily, a yoga practice offers a range of benefits to increase our spinal vitality.
In practice, we will explore forward bends, back bends, and twists. You will learn to practice yoga postures with greater efficiency and thus less strain on the back. We will close the workshop with yummy restorative postures, giving our bodies a delightful balance of spinal strengthening, opening, and releasing.
Please note: this workshop is not suitable for those with acute back pain. Those with spinal problems accompanied by mild chronic pain who are already receiving yoga instruction and understand their limitations are welcome to attend. Sam will make every effort to help individuals with spinal problems but please understand and respect the limits of what can be attained within a group class, as contrasted to one-on-one yoga therapy.
