This is a 75 minute yoga class, focusing on breathing techniques and yoga postures that stimulate and deactivate the nervous system in a way that increase self-regulation and thereby decreasing stress in the body and mind. This class is taught through the framework of trauma informed yoga; which means that we will focus on creating a safe space for each individual to explore a mind/body connection. This class will incorporate a little more movement and heat building than our previous trauma informed classes BUT is still very beginner friendly. Throughout the practice we will stimulate our systems through a slight increase in intensity, then focus on the deactivation in a very mindful way. The idea behind this is to increase each individual's ability to go from a more heightened state to one of more calm.
No previous yoga experience required.
This class will be lead by Veronica Tovar, LCSW & RYT 200, owner of Breathing Through Counseling & Wellness Services. As both a licensed clinical social worker and a registered yoga instructor Veronica has extensive experience working with trauma. Please feel free to contact her with any questions or concerns regarding the class or related topics.
