Yoga has been increasingly recognized as an effective method for healing the effects of traumatic experiences on both the body and mind. This realization prompted mental health and trauma experts to further explore the concept of integrating trauma work with yoga; creating trauma informed yoga.
This workshop is an introduction to trauma informed yoga. The first 30 minutes will be dedicated to explaining how trauma impacts the body and how yoga can assist the body in releasing trauma. A 45 minute trauma informed practice will follow. Then 15 minutes will be reserved for discussion and questions. Each participant will be provided a copy of the practice sequence given in class so they can further explore the postures at home.
No previous yoga experience required.
This workshop will be lead by Veronica Tovar, LCSW & RYT 200, owner of Breathing Through Counseling & Wellness Services. As both a licensed clinical social worker and a registered yoga instructor Veronica has extensive experience working with trauma and invites any questions or concerns regarding the workshop or related topics.
