This is a 75 minute yoga class taught through the framework of trauma informed yoga. This practice is designed to create a safe environment while encouraging exploration of the mind-body connection. So what does this mean? How is it different than a “regular” yoga class? It means that practice space is designed in a way in which each person has ample space to call their own, with no one directly behind them. Participants are given options to take space during the practice and can rejoin without question. Feel more comfortable with your eyes open at all times or your head up in child’s pose? No problem. This style of yoga encourages each participant to take any variation that makes them feel more comfortable. There are no commands in trauma informed yoga, only invitations to explore shapes and postures to further a connection between the mind and the body. This practice focuses on a mind/body connection rather than the precision of each posture. This class is designed to stimulate and deactivate the nervous system in a manner that enhances self-regulation. This practice is designed to assist with various emotional experiences including depression, anxiety, and trauma.
No previous yoga experience required.
This class will be lead by Veronica Tovar, LCSW & RYT 200, owner of Breathing Through Counseling & Wellness Services.
